Call for Papers: INTOCUS International Conference
The 2nd INTOCUS International Conference on Heritage, Cultural Tourism, and Sustainability will take place on 27–28 February 2026 in Athens, Greece, hosted by Harokopio University of Athens.

The abstract submission deadline has been extended to 30 November 2025, and the notification of acceptance will now be communicated on 15 December 2025. The final paper submission date remains set for 31 March 2026.
This edition will feature three keynote speakers – Mike Robinson, Melanie Smith, and Michalis Karavatzis – as well as a workshop led by Giampaolo Viglia.

The conference focuses on the interlinkages between tourism, culture/heritage, and sustainability, and welcomes papers addressing a wide range of topics. Under the theme of Culture, Heritage, and Sustainability, contributions may explore contemporary and recent heritage and sustainable tourism development, intangible heritage and tourism, off-the-beaten-track tourism and heritage development, heritage tourism and climate change adaptation, cultural resilience through sustainable tourism, gastronomy and food heritage in tourism, heritage trails and sustainable tourism, and participatory models of sustainable cultural heritage management.
Within Destinations and Heritage Management, relevant topics include cultural tourism and social cohesion, visitor management at heritage sites, gamification in cultural heritage, and overtourism and heritage site protection.
Contributions under Tourism Development and Planning may address sustainable planning and marketing for tourism and culture/heritage, new approaches to destination management, the role of the landscape in new tourism shifts and trends, limits of acceptable change and nature-based solutions, special-interest tourism products, local and regional community-based bottom-up approaches in tourism planning, co-creation, co-development and innovation in participatory, creative community-based initiatives, awareness raising and mobilization of local communities for tourism, heritage and local development, education on sustainable programs in tourism and heritage, sustainability literacy in tourism education and professional development, and inclusivity and accessibility in heritage tourism.
Finally, under Contemporary Issues, papers may discuss policy-making and governance in tourism and culture/heritage sectors, new paradigms of governance for sustainable tourism and culture/heritage, new ethics in sustainable tourism and culture/heritage, decolonizing heritage tourism narratives, governance and stakeholder participation in sustainable tourism, smart tourism, the role of storytelling and digital media in heritage or environmental interpretation, circular economy practices in tourism and heritage management, cultural heritage and artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality technologies in cultural tourism, reimagining cultural events for a digital and sustainable era, crisis management in the tourism, culture, and heritage sector, new urban tourism, and the changing roles of tourism stakeholders.
